Creamy Sour Cream and Onion Chicken

Creamy Sour Cream and Onion Chicken

This Creamy Sour Cream and Onion Chicken is rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. Made in one pan with a velvety sour cream sauce and a spicy kick from Midnight Ember chili powder.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Midnight Ember chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup full-fat sour cream
  • Fresh herbs (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season both sides of the chicken breasts with garlic powder, Midnight Ember chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil and 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken for 5–6 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add the remaining butter and sliced onions. Sauté for 10–15 minutes until soft and golden brown. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits. Whisk in the sour cream until smooth. Let it warm gently for 2 minutes (keep heat low to avoid curdling).
  5. Return the chicken breasts to the skillet. Spoon the sauce over the chicken and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt or extra Midnight Ember if desired. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot.
